You’re not alone living in the “insanity cycle!”
Are you like me when you are hell bound and determined to eat right, exercise, drink enough water and have a productive day then…?
The alarm hits and you are so damn tired you hit snooze 2-3 times….
Now you’re running late so you just pick something up to eat like a pop-tart…
When you arrive to work you find a pile of something-something on your desk that needs your immediate attention…
Now your to-do list is no longer because you have been managing small emergencies that run you over your lunch period, so you have to get something quick and easy…
OOPs forgot about the water…
Now I’m just exhausted and want to go home so hell no to the gym…
You get home and the person you live with, or someone calls and says – let’s get tacos and you say HELL YEAH!
Sound familiar? Even those of us with the best of intentions get caught in what I call the insanity cycle. This is why accountability and habit formation are critical in your desired outcomes.
Accountability helps put the responsibility on another party and allows you notice that someone else is expecting results from you. It also is an investment of your hard-earned money where you wish to get a return. Those two drivers make all the difference when you your alarm goes off at 5 am and you have to meet your trainer. Or when your partner asks to get pizza and you say – no I have a weigh in tomorrow!
Habit formation is another critical aspect of the Phoenix Method here at eVOLV. The fundamental “triggers” of life that we succumb to that allow us to get off track are those that we work on conquering while developing new “triggers” that allow for success. We are a culmination of all our decisions based on triggers of our past and being human, we succumb to those we know well. This is how we began to break the “insanity cycle,” doing the same things over and over again but expecting different results.
I always start my clients off with only three “3” requirements or non-negotiables their first week!
1. Log your diet…
2. Increase heart rate minimum four (4) hours a week…
3. And meet with me one time during the week minimum for an accountability check.
Did you notice I did not tell them to abide by a strict prescribed diet? I even tell them that two 15-minute walks a day count for heart rate increase and I did not demand they come into the gym for those 4 hours. Also, once a week with me to start is simply fine. These are cornerstone habits that build a foundation from which to grow and are the three fundamentals of our Phoenix Method.
These three non-negotiables allow for small victories and begin to enforce healthy habit formation and provide lifelong tools for which each of my clients have for the rest of their lives. It’s simple and it should never be overwhelming or complex. This is how you break the insanity cycle.
