Feeling Anxious/Depressed? You want to read this...

I had just drunk an entire bottle of Vodka and I was sitting in my vehicle in some back alley contemplating my life at the moment trying to figure out how the hell I had gotten to that point. This happened quite a bit during this very dark period where I would find myself alone, drinking to the point where I would pass out somewhere in Albuquerque in my vehicle trying to hide it from my then partner.


These memories bring chills to my soul and just a crazy feeling to my heart. They were times when I felt stuck and with no forward momentum. I felt enslaved to the circumstances I had created. I also remember that during these times I hadn’t worked out or had done anything physical in years. I had truly let my body start to die.


I was putting alcohol into my system daily if not hourly and I was eating cheap fast or quick foods. I wasn’t moving so I literally was killing myself. During one of my sober moments, probably hung over as hell, I realized that my stagnate and anxiety filled lifestyle was caused by my decision not to move.


I was tired of being tired and depressed. It was then that I realized the happiest times in my life were when I was competing in the NASKA (fighting) ring and moving daily. It was then that I fought like hell to overcome the battle of the bottle and begin working in the gym business, cleaning toilets, but still in the gym business. LOL.


Slowly but surely with daily movement my life begun to flow again, and I didn’t feel “trapped” any longer. It wasn’t about alcohol because boy, I can still drink. It was about movement, motion, and increased blood flow. Yes, I did want my body to look better, but I wanted more of my mind and attitude to feel better.


Now don’t get me wrong, being a trainer in the fitness industry, I have to look the part. Yes, I have competed and won in physique competitions, and I have received my pro card in the OCB. Though this is important it is more important that I maintain a healthy state of mind. I admit I have tried counseling, antidepressants, meditation (we even teach this here at eVOLV), but nothing worked like getting my sweat on and especially in a great class with an amazing instructor.


This is why and how eVOLV was born. I wanted to recreate that experience that helped me and provide it for others day in and day out. Now I have a whole team of trainers who I have shared my knowledge and experience that provide experiences every day in-person and now even virtually.


These experiences using movement and community help inspire individuals to better themselves. This is the magic potion that helps chemically balance your thoughts and allows blood flow to curb the effects of a depressive and anxious state. This is eVOLV!

So, if you are feeling anxious or depressed, it’s time to move again. I’m not just talking from the couch to the fridge either. It means feeling alive again by increasing your heart rate to a point of a sweat and exertion. We are meant to move! We are not meant to be sedentary. We need this activation in our life. The funny thing is that if you don’t move now, you will be forced still later in life. Read that again!


Voluntarily take the time now or be forced to take the time later for your well-being!


I realize we are in the middle of a pandemic and that we are all scared of something or another.
