There are five reasons individuals like you, and I change. These include:
• Self (Identity, personal accomplishment, winning)
• Family
• Contribution
• Revenge
• Disgust
Do any of those resonate with you? In the last two decades (man I’m getting old) in the fitness realm, most individuals that have gone through my programming have all experienced some level of disgust. I believe this is one of the most powerful motivating factors fighting the bulge and getting our shitake together. I don’t know about you but when I can’t button a pair of pants anymore, or a friend states man you have gained some weight or when I look in the mirror and I see an extra roll or two popping out – I’m like “shitake I’ve done it again.”
The second most frequent reason being revenge, mainly break-ups, that I see individuals seeking help. I recently begun dating this year again, yes during the Covid – don’t judge. I had three decent individuals that unfortunately did not work out. I am on my fourth and it is wonderful by the way going on five months now! Anyways – each time I started the relationship I always gained weight. Too much beer and comfort levels. Each time I broke it off, and yes, “I” broke them off, I always got my shitake together and had to make sure I looked good again. Not only for the new one – but for all those in my past – you know what I mean!!!
The third most frequent of my client’s reasons for change are wanting to be there for their family not just in person but a vibrant active person that can take walks and care for the grandchildren. Most of these individuals have had a health scare of some sort and wish to reverse the effects and somehow gain back that which they believe they lost. These are some of my best stories and those of which I am most proud. A gentleman gaining his walking abilities after having been told he needed amputation. A COPD/Lung cancer client who could not even walk from his car to the door without being exhausted working out for a full hour without oxygen. A paraplegic individual being welcome and learning to sit up for the first time. These are all stories of real change and determination.
The last two are always part of the process I believe – you are supporting eVOLV through contribution to its’ mission and it is always for YOU! See here at eVOLV it is never about the brick and mortar, it is never about our trainers (although in my eyes they are most important), it is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS about YOU!
